Diablo 4 players explain why planned loot changes can’t come soon enough

The tree of whispers in Diablo 4

Diablo 4 players have been disappointed with the loot drops, and they have expressed the need for changes Blizzard have promised to come sooner rather than later.

The state of Diablo 4 is slowly improving, and Blizzard has made promises for even more improvements to come in future. Season 2 saw improvements to XP boosts and loot drops, but players are still struggling to find loot that genuinely rewards their builds.

In a stream hosted towards the end of 2023, Associate Game Director, Joseph Piepora, said that they are planning to let players customize their loot to fit their build. This will be a significant change from the current system where players can only reroll one stat of an item.

Game Director Joe Shely, who was also in the stream, said that they are also planning to conduct a general overhaul that prepares for this change in Season 3.

They did not announce specific dates for these changes. Since loot touches every aspect of the game, devs are going to need a lot of time to work on it, which is why players need to wait until at least Season 4 for this change to happen.

Diablo 4 players are getting eager for these changes to be implemented in-game, however. In a post on Reddit, ‘Left-Enthusiasm529’ said, “As of now loot is very predictable. Goblins will drop one guaranteed legendary. Helltide chests will drop [one or five] legendaries. Uber bosses will either drop [one or two] unique or a bunch of legendaries.

“There is almost no surprises apart from the occasional random unique here and there. Heck, part of the loot even sent directly to my inventory robbing me of dopamine.”

The issue is so pertinent for players that some have dubbed it the biggest issue in the game. “Itemization is by far the biggest issue in this game and it makes me stop in the 80s each time,” one fan commented.

As a game that has a big focus on the kind of loot you get, the promised overhaul cannot come soon enough for players. With some even stopping playing at all because of what essentially becomes an unrewarding grind, players are hoping Blizzard will stick to their plan of releasing the overhaul in the next two seasons.
