Destiny 2 is fixing the long-running Shader previews issue

Bungie is replacing the Shader preview system in Destiny 2 in the upcoming The Final Shape DLC with a newer preview system that properly describes all the colors it has.

For a section of players in Destiny 2, it doesn’t matter whether the exotic they’re wearing makes sense as long as it looks cool. Anyone who tells them otherwise just has poor taste in fashion

Shaders are pretty important to fashion, as they allow you to change the color of armor. However, they come with a designated set of colors in Destiny 2, and the preview tile attempts to tell you all the different colors it has. But it isn’t always spot-on and sometimes makes absolutely no sense.

Now, Bungie says they’re revisiting it and changing the tile preview to better represent the colors a Shader has.

Currently, a shader tile only represents four colors in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape DLC will bring Shader preview rework

Destiny 2’s game director, Joe Blackburn, revealed the shader change in Datto’s ‘Name That Shader’ gameshow, available on YouTube. Speaking about the new icon, Joe said:

“So all of the colors are represented in the new icons, and they’re organized a bit differently. I still think you have to know how armor works to really look at it and be like ‘I get it’, but you know, the more prominent areas take up more prominent parts of the shader, and all the little hidden colors are represented on the shader icon.”

We don’t know how the new preview looks yet, but the newer ones can be reliably trusted, at least more than the current ones. The Final Shape DLC is slated for February 27, 2024, so that’s when we can see the new preview in action.
