All Destiny 2 classes explained: Warlock, Titan & Hunter abilities, playstyle, more

All classes in Destiny 2.

In Destiny 2, you will come across three different classes, with each of them being able to wield the five different subclasses in the game. Here’s everything that you need to know about them.

While the class system in Destiny 2 has remained the same for quite some time now, the subclasses available to each class and how they work, have changed considerably over the past few years.

The game has deviated from its looter shooter style and has adopted an RPG format, where players can make multiple builds by choosing between different skills and abilities available to them.

So what are these three classes in Destiny 2, and how do you choose the best class in the game?

Each class has different armor sets and cosmetics.

While choosing a class in Destiny 2, it’s important to understand the kind of playstyle each of them brings to the table. First of all, here are the three classes:

  • Hunter
  • Titan
  • Warlock

These three classes can access all five subclasses that are currently in the game:

  • Arc
  • Solar
  • Void
  • Strand
  • Stasis

The first three are Light-based subclasses, while the last two are Darkness-based. When you first start the game, you will have access to all three subclasses, but you will have to purchase additional fragments and Aspects from Ikora Rey at the Tower.

To unlock Stasis, you need to complete the Beyond Light campaign and to unlock Strand, you need to complete the Lightfall campaign. Once you’ve unlocked both of these subclasses, you will be able to unlock additional fragments and abilities by visiting their respective vendors on Europa and Neomuna respectively.

As for the classes themselves, here’s a brief rundown of all the three classes in Destiny 2:

Hunter

The Hunter class in Destiny 2 is known for its speed and stealth. Interestingly enough, this is the only class in the game that can jump multiple times. The others just jump once and move into a glide.

In terms of being able to deal damage, Hunters are glass cannons. They have a high damage output but have a hard time surviving.

Hunters are the master of stealth.

That aside, as a Hunter, your class ability allows you to dodge. Depending upon your subclass, you can go invisible just by dodging at times. And almost every single Hunter super ability in Destiny 2 at this point is capable of melting bosses instantly.

With the right build, you can address the survivability issue that the class has. So if you’re okay with a high-risk high-reward playstyle, then go with the Hunter in Destiny 2.

Warlock

If you go by lore, Warlocks are the strongest class in Destiny 2. Not only do they have the ability to deal an immense amount of damage, but they also can support their teammates in the heat of battle.

Warlocks can call either a healing rift or an empowering rift by triggering their class ability. But movement-wise it can be slightly difficult to master this class because of a very unique jump/glide style.

Warlocks in Destiny 2.
Warlocks are known for having abilities that can support the team and buff their damage output.

However, Warlocks are mostly popular because of their Well of Radiance super, which has become an important part of the meta over the past few years.

If you’re going into an endgame activity like a Raid or a Dungeon, it’s important to have a Warlock on your team with the Well of Radiance super.

Titan

As the name suggests, Titans are the tank class in Destiny 2. Their ability kit allows them to absorb a considerable amount of damage and favors an aggressive playstyle.

As for their class ability, Titans are the only class capable of pulling up a barricade in the middle of a battlefield. Apart from that, Titans have super abilities that focus on dealing damage to the enemy.

Destiny 2 Titans.
Titans are extremely good at dealing damage in close quarters.

It’s also worth noting that, unlike the other two classes, most of the Titan super abilities are melee supers, so they need to get up close to the enemy to deal damage.

How to start a new class in Destiny 2

You can only create three characters in Destiny 2. In case you’ve created all three characters and you want to create a different one, you will have to delete one character and free up a slot. Only then can you make a new character.

Before you can choose your class in Destiny 2, you will have to choose a race for your character. The races available to you are as follows:

  • Awoken
  • Exo
  • Human

This selection is purely cosmetic, so no matter what you choose, it won’t affect your gameplay at all. That sums up everything you need to know about the three classes in Destiny 2. For more information about the game, be sure to check out the following links:
