Ahead of it’s official reveal at CoD next, the Warzone devs have shared a sneak peek at the next battle royale map and players are convinced it’s a successor to the beloved Verdansk from the original game.

Modern Warfare 3 is set to arrive on November 10, kicking off a brand-new era for Call of Duty. The sequel to MW2 (2022) is bringing back a ton of classic maps from 2009, as well as the popular Zombies mode.

It’s also going to mark a new chapter for Warzone, complete with the first new, full-sized battle royale map since Al Mazrah. The next map will be officially shown off at CoD Next on October 5, where the devs will offer a deep dive on both Warzone and MW3.

But, ahead of the reveal, a handful of teasers have given fans a peek at the new Warzone map and they think it could be heavily inspired by Verdansk.

After the devs posted short clips of the map on X (formerly Twitter), CoD expert JGOD responded: “New Warzone map is definitely putting off those Verdansk vibes. Especially if you add water to the space between port and downtown on the right.”

More took to Reddit to compare the new map with Verdansk, the original Warzone battle royale map that many players have been desperate to see return. Some even pointed out similarities between POIs.

“Wtf looks exactly like that Port side in the Verdansk map that used to overlook Downtown,” said one reply, before another added: “I mean, it’s the exact spot of port, canal, bend, and placement of the city centre. It literally is a version of verdansk.”

While some players hoped that this meant that Verdansk would be making a comeback in Warzone, others argued that a remake or reimagining was more likely.

“Verdansk remake? That’s the port If I ever saw it. Not a copy of Verdansk but a remake of it. Now with water,” said another player.

Luckily, the community won’t have to wait too long for answers as the full reveal of the new Warzone map takes place at CoD Next on October 5, alongside a closer look at Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies and multiplayer modes.
