Modern Warfare 3 launched with all 16 classic maps from the original MW2, but players can now head back to some of their favorites from last year’s game in the new Modern Warfare 2 Mosh Pit mode.

Maps can make or break any Call of Duty title and Modern Warfare 3 launched with the iconic lineup from MW2 (2009). This has proved to be a popular decision, as the new multiplayer has been mostly well-received by fans.

The roster is only expected to grow in future updates, with new original maps arriving as early as Season 1. The devs have also confirmed that more classic maps are arriving post-launch, taken from other entries in the series.

The first of these are live in Modern Warfare 3 now, as a new game mode has brought back fan-favorite maps from Modern Warfare 2 (2022).

As part of the Thursday, November 16, playlist update, Sledgehammer Games added Modern Warfare 2 Mosh Pit, a new playlist featuring maps and modes from last year’s game.

In this mode, players can enjoy 6v6 matches on four of the most popular battlegrounds from last year’s game: Farm 18, Crown Raceway, Mercado Las Almas, and Shoot House. The first three made their debut in MW2, while Shoot House first arrived in the 2019 game before being added to the sequel post-launch.

While these four maps will look the same as players remember, they benefit from all the movement and gameplay changes added in Modern Warfare 3, so they might feel and play a little differently.

It isn’t clear at the time of writing if this is a permanent playlist or one that will come and go from the available modes. We also don’t know if Modern Warfare 2 Mosh Pit will stick with the same lineup of maps and modes, or rotate over time.

Although Modern Warfare 2 (2022) wasn’t the most popular game among the CoD community, there are still plenty of fans who will no doubt welcome the chance to return to a few of the game’s most memorable maps.
