Warzone 2 Season 2 finally introduced a nerf to the Fennec 45 which was dominating the close-range meta, but TrueGameData has revealed the SMG is still comfortably the best in its class.

Warzone 2 Season 2 is finally here, and it’s the biggest update to hit the battle royale to date. Players were treated to the new Ashika Island Resurgence map as well as a huge slate of gameplay changes, such as customizable Perk Packages.

It also came with plenty of buffs and nerfs to many of Warzone 2’s weapons, with fans hoping that it would put an end to the RPK and Fennec 45 meta that has dominated the game since launch.

However, stats guru TrueGameData has revealed that the close-range meta in Season 2 “has not changed that much,” and the Fennec is still the go-to SMG despite its nerf.

In a February 21 upload to his YouTube channel, TrueGameData compared all of the top close-range guns in Warzone 2 when it comes to time-to-kill (TTK). He found that Fennec still kills faster than all of the competition.

It had a TTK of just 500ms up to around 12 meters, beating out the Lachmann Sub and Vaznev-9k, and kept up its dominance all way up to 55 meters where it kills in just under 900ms.

“The Fennec, the red line here, is just faster than everything else, everywhere,” he said while looking at the TTK graph. “It didn’t really get nerfed at all for the ranges that it’s usually used in.”

According to the Warzone 2 Season 2 patch notes, the Fennec received a nerf to its overall damage and headshot multiplayer, which many thought would knock it off its perch. However, TrueGameData certainly doesn’t think this is the case.

“It has better damage range and a dramatically better time to kill than literally every other SMG, for two seasons in a row,” he continued. “I’m not sure what that’s about, but it is still clearly the best SMG for any sort of aggressive play.”

Since the launch of the new season, the Lachmann Sub has actually replaced the RPK and Fennec as the most popular weapon in Warzone 2. However, if these stats are anything to go by, it won’t be too long before we see the Fennec 45 meta come back with a vengeance.
