Slide canceling is a controversial topic in the Call of Duty community, and players are again discussing its return for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

One of the biggest shocks to the Call of Duty community came when the devs announced that Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 would not feature the popular movement mechanic, slide canceling.

Slide canceling had been present throughout Modern Warfare 2019 and Warzone 1, becoming an integral part of the experience, especially in the battle royale.

While it may not have been intentional, the devs kept it in those games for their life spans, but when MW2 and Warzone 2 came around, the movement technique was removed,.

This caused much controversy, as opinions were split about whether or not slide canceling was healthy for the game. Despite a lot of uproar, slide canceling is still not in these games, and it seems players would like it to return.

A poll by ModernWarzone on Twitter asked players whether they were “happy Call of Duty and Warzone removed slide canceling,” and the results were telling.

The pool amassed over 45,000 votes, and 64% of players voted for not being happy about the removal of slide canceling, while 36% of players were satisfied with the decision. This reveals a clear majority wanting the return of slide canceling, however, opinions varied in the comments.

One player said: “The people who voted yes would play cod no matter what movement mechanics were in the game. they played wz1 for 3 years straight and the movement only got more intense each year with attachments and stims.”

Another comment added: “It’s not that we want slide cancelling, we just want some type of out-playability. The only one to outplay someone now is positioning. Can’t get mixy anymore.”

That said, some are happy with no slide canceling, as one user said: “Curious to know how much of that 64% acknowledge that slide cancelling was a broken mechanic that was never intended to be used in the way that it was.”

It’s important to keep in mind that the poll doesn’t reflect the entire community, but rather a small portion of those on Twitter. It’ll be interesting to see how Call of Duty 2023 deals with slide canceling, as it could either make a return or stay removed.
