Warzone 2’s devs have made the controversial decision to wipe DMZ mission progress with the Season 2 update, and they’ve explained why.

Warzone 2’s extraction-based DMZ will be receiving some major changes with February 15’s Season 2 update, bringing the brand-new Ashika Island to the mode and making Building 21 easier to access.

The most major change will be a progress wipe, where everything except your Insured Weapon Slots will be reset. Contraband Inventories and Key Inventories will be emptied, and you’ll be back to square one on the missions.

In a blog breaking down all of the DMZ changes in the Warzone 2 Season 2 update, they explained why they’re resetting inventories and refreshing mission progress.

Why is DMZ progress being wiped?

The first reason is that “Mission progress in Season 01 got too difficult, too quickly.” Players felt that the mission difficulty ramped up too fast, so the wipe allows Infinity Ward to make sure “each mission’s challenge and time requirements are more balanced.”

Having brand-new missions will also allow these challenges to take players to Al Mazrah, Building 21, and the new Ashika Island. “The mission refresh is made up of new missions, updated missions and missions we felt worked really well from Season 01,” they explained.

Finally, the Key Inventory being emptied means they can update the Key Stash to hold “specific missions items” that you need to bring from one map to another. They said it allows them to have “longer form missions that utilize all of our Exclusion Zones.”

Infinity Ward don’t intend on having a mission reset every season though. Instead, they’re “excited to try different approaches each season to continually improve the DMZ experience.”

These missions will also include the brand-new Crown faction, but players aren’t happy as it’s only available to Modern Warfare 2 owners.
