Warzone 2 players were delighted to see reports that the popular Resurgence mode could return in Season 2, but CoD pro Joseph “JoeWo” Wohala believes that the battle royale “isn’t ready” for a Rebirth Island-style mode.

Resurgence was a standout mode in the original Warzone, giving players a welcome change of pace from the regular battle royale experience. The smaller maps like Rebirth Island, or later Fortune’s Keep, become instant fan favorites thanks to their faster-paced gameplay and frantic gunfights.

If rumors are to be believed, Warzone 2 Season 2 looks set to bring Resurgence back once again, with a leaked map even surfacing online. However, CoD expert JoeWo believes that Warzone 2’s gameplay doesn’t suit the smaller-scale mode in its current state.

In a chat with JGOD, Repullze, and LuckyChamu, JoeWo explained that the developers would have to fundamentally change Warzone 2 before adding Resurgence mode would make sense.

“I don’t think it’s going to be ready unless they change a lot of the mechanics of the game,” JoeWo said. “It’s not going to play like everybody played Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth.”

The issue he raised was the slower pace of Warzone 2, which may not lend itself to the rapid, more chaotic gameplay that fans expect from Resurgence.

It’s crazy to me, in Warzone 2 compared to Warzone 1, how long one game is, sometimes a game is 30 minutes,” he continued. “Some people are trying to take a quick Rebirth game for 10 or 15 minutes, and unless they change dramatically, it’s not going to play like people are expecting.”

Warzone 2 Resurgence is still yet to be announced by the developers, so there’s no word yet on how drastically the formula will be changed compared to the original version that fans know and love.

The sequel also introduces a host of gameplay features, such as AI Strongholds and splitting circles, so it remains to be seen how, if at all, they will be worked into a new Resurgence playlist.

With Warzone 2 Season 2 set to arrive in February, fans will be hoping for news about the returning mode very soon.
