COD players threaten to boycott Modern Warfare 3 following major leaks
ActivisionFollowing some major leaks concerning Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty fans have set social media on fire with their reactions to the news with the intention of boycotting the game.
Despite being several months away from the long-awaited release of Modern Warfare 3, new leaks have started to emerge revealing a possible upcoming MW3 reveal event in Warzone, the reintroduction of the classic mini-map and Ninja Perk, and several weapons that could get into the game.
Nevertheless, among all the leaks, one particular leak garnered significant attention due to its negative reception. This leak was linked to the potential inclusion of Operator skins, weapons, and bundles from MW2 being carried over to this year’s new game.
Interestingly, the devs quickly addressed this news via Twitter, acknowledging that the content mentioned above would indeed be carried over from MW2 to the upcoming Modern Warfare 3.
While many players who would otherwise lose their invested time and money in this year’s title consider this to be good news, some players feel this decision doesn’t bode well for Modern Warfare 3’s future.
COD fans promise boycott in response to MW3 leaks
Conversations about Modern Warfare 3 quickly began to spread on social media with several fans sharing that the current plan feels like “repackaging a DLC as a full version.”
COD fans in various posts throughout Reddit actively got involved and explained that they won’t invest in the new title and will instead boycott the game because they believe “MW3 as a whole is a $70 scam.”
Furthermore, other players accuse the developers of choosing this route because “it’s less work for them” and label the game as “Modern Warfare 2.5,” implying that it’s merely a minor update to this year’s game.
Additional comments include that it was the “least they could do” as opposed to taking away all purchased content again as is customary in previous games.
Modern Warfare 3 is expected to be a sequel to Modern Warfare 2 2022, developed by Sledgehammer Games to be released in November later this year. Although fans could potentially boycott MW3, only time will tell if they decide to do so.
