Cold War devs add Double Agent: Melee mode to address community concerns
The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Double Agent mode has been revamped to make it more enjoyable for players. Introducing, Double Agent: Melee.
At the start of Black Ops Cold War Season 5, Treyarch released the Double Agent game mode. This was CoD’s attempt at implementing the Among Us style gameplay into a first-person shooter.
However, the mode quickly devolved into a shoot-out, with rounds rarely lasting longer than a minute. Various players complained about the mode’s inclusion of guns and allowing players to kill each other freely.
Luckily, the game’s latest update included a revamped version called Double Agent: Melee. This removes guns and forces players to be more tactical.
Cold War gets Double Agent: Melee mode
The main issue with the Double Agent mode was the lack of cooperation among players. Once players got their hands on weapons, the game would devolve into a free-for-all. Where Among Us requires critical thinking, Double Agent required a quick trigger finger.
With the August 26 Cold War patch, Treyarch introduced the Double Agent: Melee mode. This is the exact same as Double Agent, but without firearms. Players can only use melee weapons and assassinations.
But not all ranged weapons are removed. Investigators can still earn the Hand Cannon, and Double Agents can still earn the Combat Bow. However, players won’t be able to kill each other all willy nilly in Double Agent: Melee.
For those who enjoy the chaos, the original Double Agent mode can still be played. All players need to do is set the Loot Weapons option to the Guns setting in Custom Games. Playing with guns can be a lot of fun, but not in lobbies with randoms.
Hopefully, players will find more enjoyment in the revamped Double Agent: Melee game mode.
