Baldur's Gate 3 petrified Drow in the Underdark

The Mourning Frost Staff is one of the most powerful quarterstaff in Baldur’s Gate 3, but you’ll need to get some components to craft it. If you’re picking your brains out to find the Icy Helve, here’s what you can do.

Baldur’s Gate 3 usually makes you work a bit to get the best weapons it has in store, and this is no different for the Mourning Frost Staff. However, you’ll need to get three components to build it and the one called Icy Helve will have you facing one of the scariest enemies you’ll find in the Underdark.

Here’s how to get the Icy Helve of the Mourning Frost Staff in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to get the Icy Helve in Baldur’s Gate 3

To get to the Icy Helve in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to head to the Selunite Outpost (X:176, Y: -235) near the Shattered Sanctum’s entrance to the Underdark. Go through the broken window, and a Spectator will surprise your party to start a fight.

Spectators are huge Aberration creatures that can fire debilitating rays from their multiple eyestalks. Their max HP is 118 (Balanced) or 154 (Tactician), and can cast Paralyzing Ray, Wounding Ray (7 to 35 DMG), Fear Ray, Unpetrification Ray, and Bite (4 to 18 plus Piercing damage).

We recommend you to have your full life and spell lots before facing this creature since their rays usually block your attacks. The Spectator will also free petrified drows near it to fight you, and if you don’t want to kill them, you can only shove them to break them out of the creature’s mind control.

Focus on casting buffs to protect your party from the Spectator’s paralyzing rays.

After defeating the Spectator, you’ll get to talk to Dhourn, one of the drows searching for the Adamantine Forge. He’ll start a fight with you, and you’ll need to defeat them to loot the Icy Helve from his corpse.

In case the drow wasn’t freed of their petrified status by the Spectator, you can use Basilisk Oil to cure them, and then start a fight.

After getting the Icy Helve, you’ll need to get the Icy Crystal and the Icy Metal to complete the Mourning Frost Staff.

And that’s everything on where to find the Icy Helve in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you want to know more about Larian Studios’ RPG, you can check our guides below:
