Best used by players who are struggling to find a good healing item or something to help friends in fights, the Slippery Chain Shirt is some of the best medium armor you can get. Here is where to find it and why you should use it.

Where to find the Slippery Chain Shirt in Baldur’s Gate 3

The Slippery Chain Shirt can be found in The Festering Cove in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3

The Festering Cove is a secret area in the Underdark that can be pretty difficult to find if you aren’t actively looking for it. Step by step, here is how to get there:

  1. Enter The Underdark through the portal in Auntie Ethel’s lair.
  2. Once you are in the Underdark, take the mushroom portal to the ground
  3. You will find yourself surrounded by orange flora that will explode if you get too close.
  4. Use a ranged weapon to get rid of the orange flowers
  5. Use a light source to see the entrance to the Festering Cove in the right corner of the orange flora-covered area.
  6. Jump into the mushroom portal you find in this corner.
  7. Climb down the Cragged Rock into the Festering Cove.

It may take some trial and error to reach it, but with enough patience, you will find yourself in the Festering Cove and on your way to the Kuo-Toa.

You need to make sure that you don’t take too much damage from the exploding orange flowers, so try to get rid of them. This is especially important when you jump through the last mushroom portal into the Festering Cove.

Once you have climbed down the Cragged Rock, you will be able to find the locked chest that houses the Slippery Chain Shirt at X: -400, Y:329 on your map. Bring Astarion or a rogue along for an easy lockpick, and you can take it for yourself or a party member.

What does the Slippery Chain Shirt do in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The Slippery Chain Shirt in Baldur’s Gate 3 allows you to let creatures you heal disengage safely without provoking opportunity attacks

At this point in the game, the Slippery Chain Shirt is one of the best items you can find. It lets you or a party member gain the Cautious Healer trait, which essentially means that you can help others disengage from a fight without taking any damage.

Sometimes battles get messy in Baldur’s Gate 3, and especially for lower health characters, this kind of ability is essential to help them get away to heal safely for a moment. Other than this ability, the Slippery Chain Shirt gives you the 14 plus Dexterity Modifier AC (with a +2 limit).
