Baldur’s Gate 3: How to get Annals of Karsus

Gale’s quest has many stages, and one of them requires you to get the mysterious “Annals of Karsus” tome from a hidden labyrinth, so here’s how to find it in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3 can be overwhelming for most players, especially those who are eagerly trying to complete companions’ quests. If you’re want to make some progress with Gale’s quest after arriving at Baldur’s Gate city, you’ll need to head to Sorcerous Sundries to find the Annals of Karsus.

However, getting the tome isn’t as easy as it sounds, so here’s everything you need to know to find the Annals of Karsus in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to find Annals of Karsus in Baldur’s Gate 3

To find the Annals of Karsus in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll need to head to Sorcerous Sundries (X:-18, Y:-65) in the Lower City of Act 3. There you’ll find Ramazith’s Tower, where you’ll need to look for Tolna Tome-Monger for more information on the book you’re looking for.

She’ll be waiting on the first floor, but she’ll refuse to sell you the Annals of Karsus. However, she’ll hint that you can get the book by investigating her office on the floor above. Keep in mind that the second floor is being patrolled by Animated Armor guards, which won’t let you pick the lock to the office.

You can cast an Invisibility spell or use an Invisibility Potion to avoid them, and then pass a DC 15 Check to open the door. Once you do so, enter the room and quickly close the door to get out of their sight. From here, interact with the Clasped Book that you can find on the bookshelf (X:14, Y:-75) and it will open a portal to the Sorcerous Vault.

The Sorcerous Vault is an intricate labyrinth filled with traps, so here are the steps you’ll need to follow to find the Annals of Karsus:

1. Go through the Oak Door of X:367, Y: 1019.
2. Go straight through the Ramazith door. While there’s no floor visible in the next room go straight to the center since you won’t fall.
3. If you pass a Perception check, you’ll notice a trap right in front of the Silverhand door. Disarm it and then go through the entrance.
4. You’ll be teleported to another chamber with three doors. Go through the one named Abjuration, and then through the one titled Silver.
5. Activate a lever in X: 323, Y: 969. Keep in mind that this room is filled with traps, so do your best to avoid them.
6. Go through the door named Demon, and you’ll be teleported to the Vault where you started. However, the door named Karsus will be open. Follow the path and enter the door called Karsus Vault.

After getting to Karsus Vault, you’ll find the Annals of Karsus on a bookshelf in X:321, Y:997. After reading it, you’ll get a “Scroll of Dehtrone“, a powerful Level 5 Necromancy spell. You should also steal the tome to later give to Gale and continue his quest.
