A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has discovered a trick to beat Marcus in Last Light that doesn’t make him summon demons.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players are likely to reach Last Light in the Shadow-Cursed Lands. The little town is a brief respite from the struggle it is to explore the area. Last Light is protected by the Cleric Isobel, and one of the first things you need to do after entering the town is speak with her.

Usually, when players do so, Marcus – an agent of the Absolute – appears in the room and tries to take her away. Players can then choose to try and save her or essentially sacrifice her to Ketheric Thorm in Moonrise Towers.

One player discovered that you don’t have to talk to Isobel at all to defeat Marcus. He is there when you first enter Last Light, and if you know what he’s really there to do, then it makes sense to try and stop him immediately.

The issue, though, is that attacking him will just go to the cutscene where he summons demons to fight against you. ‘Own_Pause_4959’ then decided to try something a little different.

“I noticed that spells like drop weapon don’t make him hostile,” they explained in a post on Reddit. “So I tried something out: Hold Person. It worked. I killed him in two hits without triggering the cut scene.”

Apparently, Isobel will come running into the room afterward and ask you why you killed him. You can then explain, and the story goes on as normal.

The post triggered a conversation amongst fans where they discussed their own discoveries. One Baldur’s Gate 3 player mentioned that they were able to save a man thrown into the Spider Pit in the Goblin Camp from Act 1.

“There was a similar situation I did, but with the man in the goblin camp that gets kicked down into the spider pit. I managed to kill those two goblins without aggroing the entire camp. The man thanked me in a mini cut scene, and left. I had no idea I could save him until I tried,” they explained.

Overall, players were glowing about the RPG elements of Baldur’s Gate 3 and how many different ways you can play through the game. The fact that players are discovering new cutscenes they had not found before means that the devs had considered many ways in which players could get through the game’s challenges.
