Lead game designer Daniel Klein has revealed that Respawn has concerns about the new Apex Legends character Valkyrie being “too strong” in Season 9, but they can always alter her later.

Apex Legends Season 9, Legacy, will bring a ton of new content to the battle royale. The next big update will make some major map changes to Olympus and add the Bocek Bow. It will also introduce the new legend – Valkyrie.

The Apex Legends devs have already released her interesting backstory and teased some of her gameplay footage. She seems like a formidable character, and that’s exactly why Respawn is concerned about her becoming overpowered.

Valkyrie in Apex Legends

Whenever a new character joins the Apex Legends roster, the fans immediately attempt to test out their abilities and gameplay. This helps them find out what kind of effect the Legend will have on the battle royale’s meta.

Respawn’s lead game designer Daniel Klein often answers fan queries about legend balancing, and he fielded a few questions about Season 9 on Reddit. Many fans showed their excitement over Valkyrie’s arrival and asked if she’d be strong at launch.

“Oh, she’ll be strong,” Klein replied. “Terrified right now, she might be too strong, but I’ve called my shots, and now all we can do is wait.”

Apex Legends Valkyrie

Respawn has a habit of keeping a check on a Legend’s progression during a season, including their win-rate and pick-rate. If the character is too strong, they’ll make some changes to balance them out.

However, it’s doubtful that Valkyrie will go through major changes within a week after her launch unless she’s facing some extremely frustrating problems. The devs have nerfs and buffs planned for other Legends already, so they will likely wait and see how she performs before deciding on any drastic changes.

We’ll have to wait and see how Valkyrie performs when Apex Legends Season 9, Legacy, finally arrives on May 4 when the brand new Arenas game mode will be making its debut in the popular battle royale game.
