Warzone 2 YouTuber and weapon stats expert TrueGameData has proven that weapons can deal different damage in Warzone 2 than in Modern Warfare 2, with one particular weapon dealing 40% more.

Although Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard‘s weapons had to be ported over to the original Warzone, Warzone 2 uses only Modern Warfare 2’s weapons in one unified engine. The developers have been keeping weapon balancing together within the patches, so it was assumed that the weapons behaved the same.

However, Warzone weapon stats expert TrueGameData has discovered that a weapon has a “dramatic increase” in damage in Warzone 2 compared to Modern Warfare 2, and there could be more.

The weapon in question is the X12 pistol, the gun you drop in with at the start of Warzone 2 matches. It turns out this weapon is much more powerful in Warzone 2 than it is in Modern Warfare 2.

Within 15 meters, the X12 deals 29 damage per shot in multiplayer. But in Warzone 2, it deals a whopping 41. This trend continues, with the X12 dealing more damage in Warzone 2 than in Modern Warfare 2 at every range. It doesn’t have anything to do with Armor Plates either, as it deals the same damage to both flesh and armor.

However, not every weapon has a different damage profile between Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. TrueGameData also tested the TAQ-56, 556 Icarus, and VEL 46 and didn’t find any inconsistencies. He said there was one “strange damage value” with the M4, but he’ll need to do further testing.

CoD content creator Mavriq suggested that the X12 has been given more damage to “balance out the ‘land and can’t find weapon’ problem.”

We won’t know for sure until TrueGameData does some testing, and we may get further clarification with the Season 2 update which is expected on February 1.
