A Starfield player found out that their ship has a bizarre portal that teleports items and the player character back to their last location.

Starfield players are always coming up with some new discovery in its seemingly endless world. A bizarre bug in the game seems to have turned into a unique feature instead. Redditor ‘markiethefett’ shared a video to the Starfield subreddit where they show a bizarre portal glitch in their ship. They can be seen dropping an item down a pitch-black hole in the middle of their ship.

However, on doing so, the item just reappears back where it originally was before the OP picked it up. They go on and jump down the hole themselves, but they too get teleported to another part of their ship. The OP said they liked this feature, but they’re “scared to edit [their] ship in case [they] lose it.”

Starfield’s release was relatively stable and the game was playable for the majority of players on launch. It didn’t have many game-breaking bugs, and Bethesda have been gradually releasing patches to fix the existing ones. However, fans usually find bugs like this, that don’t hinder the gameplay, pretty entertaining.

Starfield players in the thread couldn’t help but make references to Portal, with one user commenting that they now want a Portal gun mod. Another suggested the OP to experiment with NPCs next, but they replied that: “The pathfinder stops me pushing them in, or leading them into it.”

While many were pondering the reason behind this strange Starfield portal glitch, one user might have solved the mystery. According to ‘Fortune090,’ “this is what happens when falling out of bounds under the map in this game…It seems to respawn you/objects to specified locations in proximity if it detects you fell through.”

“For example, once you got to the chest at the Stroud shipyard and fell, you’d spawn outside the meeting room every time.”

This isn’t the first time that Starfield players have encountered an entertaining or useful bug. One player’s ship turned into a rogue sentient AI and started attacking enemy vessels. Meanwhile, another player found out they could lockpick a dung pile.
