A new mod for Skyrim adds a useful quality-of-life feature from Starfield into the game, which goes to show that the decade old Bethesda RPG can still be improved with new mods.

Starfield, Bethesda’s latest title, works very similarly to their previous titles, leading many to call it “Skyrim in space.” However, as expected, it has a couple of features that are essentially quality-of-life upgrades. Now, the modding community has shown that the decade-old RPG is still worth playing; it just needs a few tweaks.

Starfield has several companions you can take on your travels with you, just like in Skyrim. These characters have their own skills and behavior, and their effectiveness in combat can vary. When you travel with companions, however, you constantly need to worry about keeping them alive.

This has been fixed in Starfield with a simple yet useful feature, that of healing your companion. A modder has now added that same feature to Skyrim.

Skyrim mod lets you heal companions like in Starfield

The mod, created by Nexus Mods user ‘JaySerpa,’ is simply titled “Press E to Heal Followers” and does exactly that. With the press of a button, you can now heal downed companions in Skyrim with a healing potion. The NPCs even respond with voiced lines for some added immersion. You can change the button and it also works on controllers.

Fed up with Starfield’s companions attacking everything in sight, JaySerpa was on their way to heal Sarah when they thought, “This is quite handy. Wouldn’t it be cool to heal followers the same way in Skyrim?”

You don’t have to worry about your followers dying out anymore.

Simply press E on an injured companion to activate the mod. The follower will be given a health potion from your inventory and will attempt to stand up and continue fighting. They will also respond with one of 200 lines of dialogue thanking you or commenting on the situation.

The mod also comes with some other useful features. For instance, it will only pick your lowest-tier potions to heal your companions. If you want to talk to the downed companion instead of healing them, you can do so by pressing Shift+E. The same button combo can also be used on neutral NPCs that you want to heal.
