How to get Mewtwo in Pokemon Go

Only a few Pokemon in Pokemon Go are powerful enough to compete with Mewtwo, the Legendary Psychic-type beast. To make an unstoppable team for the Go League, Gym battles, and Raids, check out this guide on how to get Mewtwo in Pokemon Go.
Pokemon Go trainers must unlock and power up the best available Pokemon to win PvP battles and gym raids. Combat Power (CP) is usually the most reasonable element to judge a Pokemon’s potential, and it is no surprise that Mewtwo has the third-highest CP in the game.
On top of that, Mewtwo is also one of the strongest attackers in Pokemon Go. Having it on your team should grant a massive advantage instantly.

How to catch Mewtwo in Pokemon Go
The best way to catch Mewtwo in Pokemon Go is by winning five-star Raid Battles. The legendary Pokemon occasionally appears in five-star raids and was last available between June 16 and July 1, 2022. There’s no information regarding the return of Mewtwo to five-star raids.
Beating Mewtwo in a five-star Raid Battle is as difficult as it sounds. You need to team up with several trainers and use your best Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type Pokemon as these types are strong against Psychic-type Pokemon.
The difficulty of a Tier 5 Mewtwo raid can be overwhelming for two trainers. It is best to take on such a challenge in the game with at least three members.
After the battle, you’ll get a limited number of Premier Pokeballs. Make the most of them by making great and excellent throws as they increase the chances of catching the Pokemon. Using Razz, Golden Razz, and Silver Pinap berries can also ease the process.
Can you trade a Mewtwo in Pokemon Go?
Yes, you can use trading to unlock Mewtwo in Pokemon Go. However, the cost of trading a Legendary Pokemon can be outrageous. It is lower if the person receiving the Mewtwo already has it registered on their Pokedex.

How to catch a Shiny Mewtwo in Pokemon Go
If you’re lucky enough, you might get a chance at catching Shiny Mewtwo in Pokemon Go after beating it in a Tier 5 raid. A Shiny Mewtwo has a green tail instead of pink.
Shiny Pokemon do not guarantee better IVs or attacks. They are different only visually and are sought-after because of their extremely low spawn rate.

How to catch Shadow Mewtwo in Pokemon Go
You cannot get a Shadow Mewtwo at the moment because none of the Team Go Rocket leaders has it in their lineup.
Back in 2021, Giovanni was using a Mewtwo and players had to complete a special research called An Inter-egg-sting Development to face the Team Go Rocket leader and catch it.
All in all, Pokemon Go players can do nothing but wait for the return of Mewtwo in five-star raids and Giovanni’s lineup to catch its standard, shiny, shadow, and shadow shiny variants. We’ll update this article whenever such an event arrives.
