What are Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?

Tera Raid Battles will allow players to join a team of four trainers to defeat a strong Tera Pokemon. These battles are meant to highlight Pokemon with rare Tera Type combinations.

The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet blog explains that “the Tera Raid crystals related to these events may look ordinary at first glance, but they are shrouded in a mysterious aura.” It remains to be seen if they’ll have special properties in-game but given their rarity, you won’t want to miss them.

There are two types of Tera Raid Battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Standard Tera Raid Battles will appear as a white crystal as you approach the location in-game. Meanwhile, black Tera Raid crystals indicate that the Pokemon is incredibly powerful, which means better rewards are up for grabs.
