Palworld Sanity explained: How to increase Pal SAN level
PocketpairPalworld lets you use your Pals to do any kind of work you assign to them but their Sanity needs to be managed too. Here is your guide on how to manage Pal SAN in Palworld.
Sanity in Palworld is an essential indicator if you want your Pals to perform at their best. If Sanity is ignored, they could stop working, and it might take some effort to get it up again.
There are a few ways that you can ensure your Pal’s Sanity stays where it needs to be. You’re going to have to build a few things and make sure Pals have a place to rest, and this guide will take you through everything you need to know to manage Pal Sanity.

What is Pal Sanity in Palworld?
Pal Sanity in Palworld is a measurement of your Pal’s happiness, and is shown by an indicator in your Pal’s information.
Pal have three main indicators: Health, Hunger, and Sanity. Health and Hunger keep tabs on whether your Pal needs healing and if it needs food. Sanity, though, shows you how happy your Pal is.
If your Sanity indicator gets too low, then your Pals won’t be happy and will likely refuse to do the tasks you assign them. They could also become upset and take frequent breaks, which slows down your progress.
Pals can also develop eating disorders and depression if you continuously ignore their Sanity levels. Luckily, we’ve put together a few ways you can care for your Pal to make sure that doesn’t happen.
How to manage Sanity in Palworld
Managing Sanity in Palworld includes feeding them high-quality food, making sure they have a nice place to rest and showing them some love.
There are four key things to remember when managing Pal Sanity:
- Make sure they have access to high-quality food
- Build them a bed for plenty of rest
- Have a Hot Spring in your base
- Give your Pals some pets
Make sure they have access to high-quality food
While some Pals in Palworld are good to eat from the Feed Box, others need access to high-quality food to remain sane.
So, the first step is always making sure that your Pals have access to food from the Feed Box. However, if a certain Pal is refusing to eat from the Feed Box, this is a sign that it needs higher quality cooked food.
In the early game, you can make cooked food by using the Campfire. All you need is 10 Wood and Technology Level 2. When you have leveled up a bit, you will be able to build a Cooking Pot for 20 Woods, 15 Ingots, and three Flame Organs at Technology Level 17.
Build them a bed for plenty of rest
After a hard day’s work, it’s important for your Pals to get adequate rest. Overworking your Pals leads to Sanity reduction and depression, and this can be fought by making sure they have a place to sleep.
While a Palbox suffices for helping Pals rest, beds usually do the trick a little better. You can build a Straw Pal Bed for 10 Woods and five Fiber at Technology Level 3, and you can upgrade them to Fluffy Pal Beds for 10 Cloth, 30 Wood, five Nails, and 10 Fiber at Technology Level 24.
Remember that if you have larger Pals, they will need the Large Pal Bed to make sure they get good rest. This is only unlocked at Technology Level 36, though, so you can use the Palbox for them until you reach that point.
Have a Hot Spring in your base
A Hot Spring is a great tool to help your Pals relax when they need a break from work, and you can build one at Technology Level 9.
You can build a Hot Spring in your base and use it for any Pal for 30 Wood, 15 Stone, 10 Paldium Fragments, and 10 Pal Fluids.
Give your Pals some pets
Managing your Pals’ Sanity can be as simple as taking some time to show them some love.
To pet your Pals, you can press and hold ‘4’ on your keyboard and select the ‘Pet’ command. This allows you to show your Pal some affection, and they will be better off for it.
How to fix a Pal’s Sanity in Palworld
If your Palworld Pal’s are already a bit low on Sanity, you can help cure them by giving them Medicine.
If your Pals have low Sanity for a prolonged period of time, they can develop diseases like depression and eating disorders. To cure these disorders, you need to give them Medicine.
Medicines can be acquired at the Medieval Workbench, which can be built for 30 Wood, five Nails, and 10 Paldium Fragments at Technology Level 12. Here are all the Medicines you can get from the Medieval Workbench:
Medicine | Effect | Ingredients |
---|---|---|
Low Grade Medical Supply | Cures Colds and Sprains | 5 Red Berries, 2 Horn |
Medical Supplies | Cures Ulcers and Fractures | 3 Ingots, 3 Horn, 1 Bone |
