The debut of a new Hero is always a big deal in Overwatch 2, and fans have received fresh faces every two seasons since launch. Now, the devs have revealed that they’re open to dropping new characters more regularly in the future.

Heroes are the lifeblood of Overwatch 2, and Blizzard’s popular title features a diverse roster of characters that suit all playstyles. Since the sequel arrived back in October, fans have been treated to new faces at a fairly steady rate.

The likes of Kiriko and Sojourn were added at launch, before new other Heroes debuted every two seasons with Ramattra and Lifeweaver coming in seasons two and four respectively. Then, Overwatch 2 Season 6 brought Illari, who has proved to be a popular Support Hero so far.

But players are always desperate to see the lineup of characters grow and the devs have hinted that they’re open to releasing new Heroes at a faster pace in the future.

In a developer Q&A covered by GGRecon, Overwatch 2 Executive Producer, Jared Neuss, explained that Heroes are the “heart and soul” of the game, and revealed that talks of more regular releases have taken place internally.

“Could we release heroes more frequently than we do now? Potentially,” said Neuss. “It’s something we are discussing but we don’t have any concrete plans to announce.”

Overwatch 2’s Art Director, Dion Rogers, was also keen for more Heroes to join the roster, but explained that it’s no easy feat to come up with a character with unique abilities that also fits into the wider universe.

He said: “I would love to! But it’s hard. It’s not easy to make an Overwatch hero and there is a lot that goes into it. It’s definitely something we’d love to increase at some point.”

The devs didn’t give any clues as to when the output of Heroes could begin to ramp up, but fans will be excited to hear that the cast of Overwatch 2 characters could grow at a faster rate in the future.
