Blizzard are expanding Overwatch 2’s currency and economy by re-adding Credits to the hero shooter. Our detailed explainer will walk you through Overwatch 2 Credits, how they work, and how you can secure some yourself.

There are quite a few changes afoot in Overwatch 2 as we march into Season 3. Some key changes are happening to the game’s Ranked mode, and significant nerfs are set to take hit some of the game’s main heroes.

These aren’t the only things in the pipeline for Overwatch 2 Season 3 though as it’s been announced that Credits will be making their return to the franchise.

A common item in the original Overwatch, they’ve been officially absent in Overwatch 2, yet have featured in some capacity – but more on that later. For now, let’s run you through Credits and how they will impact Overwatch 2.

What are Credits in Overwatch 2?

Credits were a currency in Overwatch 1 that players could use to purchase a number of cosmetic items in the game: Skins, emotes, voice lines, etc.

Any remaining Credits could be transferred over to Overwatch 2 and would then be dubbed as Legacy Credits – usable on select items in the new game.

How to get Credits in Overwatch 2?

The devs have explained to the Overwatch 2 community how the reintroduction of Credits to the series will work: “All players can earn up to 1500 credits as free rewards and another 500 credits as premium rewards spread throughout Season 3 Battle Pass. We are also adding more uses for your Credits so you can choose from many potential rewards.”

So, Credits will work in conjunction with the game’s existing economy, Overwatch Coins, but give players more ways to earn rewards and extra content to unlock.

Will loot boxes be returning to Overwatch 2?

No, loot boxes are still staying far away from Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 and instead there will simply be a huge range of content to purchase from the Hero Gallery – including seasonal skins that are usually very rare in their appearances.

Overwatch 2 continues to evolve and shape into Blizzard’s overarching, multi-year vision for the game. If you want to know more about the game, we have many more guides below for you to take a look at:
