A brand new exciting Cyberpunk-themed battle royale game has been announced, getting players hyped for a new shooter to enter the genre. Here is everything you need to know about Neill Blomkamp’s battle royale game Off The Grid.

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Off The Grid was announced on May 4, 2022, with an official teaser trailer. The game has been “brought to life” by Neill Blomkamp, the film director behind District 9 and Elysium, which are movies that are generally held in high regard.

Although the teaser didn’t reveal too much, there are a lot of details to unpack, as the devs at Gunzilla Games have dropped a blog with lots of information on the upcoming battle royale shooter.

Does Off The Grid have a release date?

There is currently no official release date for the game, but the devs have confirmed that it is set to launch in 2023.

With the way in which games have been delayed and pushed back in the past couple of years, bear in mind that this is currently just a time frame and we will update this section as more information is available.

What platforms will Off The Grid release on?

Off The Grid will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Unfortunately, for those on the previous generation of consoles, Off The Grid will not be available.

This does indicate that the Cyberpunk-themed game will be quite demanding, especially as it’s a AAA game running on Unreal Engine 5. Having said that, there are some gameplay details that we know of already, so let’s dive into them.

Gunzilla Games and Neill Blomkamp’s new multiplayer shooter is said to be a third-person, 150-player battle royale game, with a dystopian, Cyberpunk theme. Players will fight on a “dystopian tropical island,” where the map changes in real-time in response to certain in-game actions.

According to the Gunzilla Games blog,  Off The Grind is unlike any battle royale out there, as it aims to “evolve the genre through a strong emphasis on narrative progression, giving players the freedom to control the story and impact the gameplay with each decision they make.”

The most unique aspect of Off The Grid is the narrative, which the devs are claiming is essential to the way in which players will “craft, customize, and trade their in-game items with each other.”

Off The Grid will have both PVE and PVP aspects of the game, as players will be selecting factions to be a part of and also completing “head-spinning assassination and sabotage missions” in order to gain rewards and benefit their chosen faction.

Within the teaser trailer, although not much is shown, we do get a glimpse at a weapon, which looks like a futuristic AK-47. During this scene, the character shown in the trailer also extends a blade from their arm, perhaps indicating an emphasis on close-range melee combat.

We also got a look at a city towards the end of the trailer, so perhaps this is the setting for the BR map. Of course, this is just speculation, but as more information is revealed about the gameplay, we will be sure to update this piece.
