A new Battlefield is rumored to be coming, but players can expect a bit of a different approach that looks back at its roots and includes a free Battle Royale mode. Here is everything you need to know.

Battlefield 2042 released in 2021 with some major changes to how the franchise had worked before, including letting 128 players into a warzone at once. This did not sit well with fans and players were desperate for a return to the franchise’s roots.

While BF2042 has seen map reworks, new maps, modes, and updates throughout its seasons, players are looking forward to the next installment, and here’s everything we know about it so far.

When will the next Battlefield release?

The next Battlefield game will reportedly arrive in 2025, with the devs aiming for an October release according to a report from Insider Gaming.

This would fit well into previous releases of the franchise, but nothing has been confirmed yet as the devs are working on a complete rework of the new installment.

Battlefield Battle Royale mode

The new Battlefield is reportedly getting a free Battle Royale mode, which will take inspiration from Call of Duty: Warzone.

It looks like we will be getting a separate title that is a free-to-play included experience in the premium version of the new Battlefield.

The devs are said to also working on a mode called Gauntlet that sees teams of players working toward an objective. The lowest-scoring teams will be kicked out after each mission, and the highest-scoring teams will continue to fight for victory.

Interestingly, it seems that they are taking a lot of notes from Call of Duty and its success with Warzone, but that could be due to Byron Beede, who is working on the upcoming Battlefield title and previously worked on live service titles for CoD.

All changes coming in the next Battlefield

The next Battlefield is set to return to the well-known 64-player matches and four-class system, and a complete overhaul to its destruction systems

The game will be set in 2025-2030, taking a more modern approach that aims to tell a story looking at modern technology used in a war-like setting.

Overall, it’s looking like Battlefield is turning away from their recent attempts at scaling up lobbies and creating new modes, and turning back to their roots to offer an experience players have been looking forward to seeing with each new installment.
