Modern Warfare 2 players claim camo grind is ruining Tier 1 Hardcore matches
Modern Warfare 2 features Tier 1 for players that want to experience a mode close to the classic Hardcore, but there are complaints that these matches are being ruined by the camo grind.
There are plenty of playlists in Modern Warfare 2 that suit a variety of different playstyles, and Tier 1 is a new version of the Hardcore mode that was beloved by players for its rapid time-to-kill.
In Tier 1 matches, players are given less health, the HUD is limited, and friendly fire is turned on, ensuring a more intense gameplay experience. However, players feel that these matches are being ruined by the camo grind.
Modern Warfare 2 features four Mastery Camos to earn, and the Platinum Camo is locked behind the Longshot challenge which requires you to get kills from a certain distance. Players hop into Tier 1 matches to complete this challenge.
However, players tend to prioritize beating the camo challenge over winning the match, and Reddit user ‘JustThat0neGuy’ expressed their frustration with this in the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit.
They shared an image of the end-of-match screen showing that their team had been defeated. The Redditor explained: “Joined three matches in progress, got this within 10 seconds of loading in. Longshots are ruining Tier 1.”
Many of the commenters in the thread agreed with this sentiment, with one user stating: “Call of Duty hasn’t been about winning matches for a long time. It is disappointing.” Another player claimed that Longshot challenges “don’t align with good gameplay.”
The reason that players choose Tier 1 mode to complete the Longshot challenge is because of the extremely fast TTK of the matches which increases the chances of securing kills from a great distance.
A few users offered their own solutions for how to solve this problem, such as changing the requirements of the camo challenge so that players had to secure kills while playing on the winning team.
At the time of writing, it remains to be seen if the developers will respond to these complaints by making changes to the Longshot challenge or to Tier 1 matches, and we’ll be sure to let you know if they do.
