Halo Infinite’s Competitive modes separate controller queue from KBM

Halo Infinite may allow for cross-play between PC and Xbox consoles, but that doesn’t mean keyboard warriors have to play against controller scrubs.

For the first time in Halo’s 20 year history, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer launched simultaneously on console and PC. From day one, players on Xbox and PC can play together regardless of input device.

However, many PC players might not be happy knowing they will be competing against those with aim assist. The war between KBM and controller players has been waging across all FPS titles that allow for both inputs.

Luckily, Halo Infinite has devised a way for KBM players to compete without having to worry about the “overpowered” aim assist.

Halo Infinite’s competitive input queues

On November 15, 343 Industries surprisingly dropped Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. With it being free on all platforms, hundreds of thousands of players flooded the servers. While 343 has branded this as a beta, players have access to every game mode and map.

This also means players have access to competitive modes. These modes allow players to compete against players of similar skill levels. However, KBM players might feel they are at a disadvantage if playing against controller players.

343 Industries has addressed this by allowing players to enter different input queues. If you are in a fireteam of 1 or 2 players, you can enter either the Controller or KBM queue. However, if you have a larger party, you have to enter the cross-input queue.

This allows Halo Infinite to not only pit you against players of similar skill but also teams of similar input composition.

A Halo Waypoint blog reads, “We believe that the Solo/Duo queue options will provide a home for competitive players who want to face off against opponents with nearly the exact same team composition as them.  On the other hand, the cross-input option with no party size limit provides an opportunity for players to see how they stack up against people with different input types or full squads of similar skill.”

Essentially, you won’t be able to avoid controller players completely. But you won’t have to worry about being the only KBM user in the lobby. And if you queue with other KBM players, you will likely face off with other KBM players.
