Halo Infinite will feature crossplay across Xbox and PC, which unfortunately could allow cheaters into the mix. However, the Halo Infinite devs outlined their anti-cheat efforts, ensuring that it will respect players’ privacy.

Since crossplay has become more and more mainstream, it appears that cheating has become more common. Halo Infinite, Battlefield 2042, and Vanguard (and its Warzone integration) are the main triple-A shooters coming to both console and PC this year, and all feature crossplay.

Warzone has been plagued with cheaters since its launch, so Activision has cooked up their own kernel-level anti-cheat, and Battlefield 2042 will use easy-anti cheat along with Fortnite and Apex Legends.

Now, 343 Industries have revealed that they’re working on a non-evasive Halo Infinite anti-cheat that will evolve over time.

We’re only a few weeks away from Halo Infinite’s December 8 launch, and 343 Industries released a video explaining how they built the game for PC, revealing the Halo Infinite anti-cheat efforts.

“When you’re making a competitive game and it’s on PC, you need anti-cheat,” said Mike Romero, the Principle Software Engineering Lead. “That’s all there is to it, it’s gotta happen.”

Michael Vankuipers, 343’s Principal Software Engineer explained that “we made a commitment early on that we don’t want to have any complex DRM or anything that’s gonna inhibit a players’ ability to play the way they want to play.”

He continued, “We want to respect players’ privacy, especially legitimate players’ privacy. We’re going to continue to evolve [the anti-cheat] into whatever is necessary and whatever our players need to have a fair experience.”

DRM, or digital management rights, anti-cheat has been criticized for privacy issues and lowering PC performance. It appears that DRM might be in place, but they said they don’t want it to be “complex.”

But depending on how bad Halo Infinite’s cheating situation is, they may have to ramp up their anti-cheat measures to provide a fair experience for both Xbox and PC players.
