Halo Infinite was released early ahead of time, and to make sure you’re ahead of the curve, we’ve gone over the best Halo Infinite controller settings for you to try out.

Halo Infinite was one of 2021’s most highly-anticipated titles, and 343 Industries wanted to get players on board sooner rather than later and did so by releasing the free multiplayer on November 15, 2021, nearly a month ahead of schedule.

When you engage in combat with your opponents, your aim and movement will determine your chances of success. So, we’ll go over the best controller settings for Halo Infinite on PC and consoles.

Best Halo Infinite controller settings

Halo Infinite default controller layout

As Halo has long been a console game, the vast majority of players will choose to use a controller when playing Halo Infinite instead of a mouse and keyboard. We’ve made a few changes to certain buttons that veteran players will be familiar with.

343 Industries introduced equipment in the game’s semi-open world campaign and this has taken the RB slot that’s usually reserved for meleeing in default controllers. We’ve included PlayStation controls because Halo Infinite is on PC too.

  • LT/L2: Zoom
  • RT/R2: Shoot
  • LB/L1: Throw Grenade
  • RB/R1: Melee
  • Left Stick: Sprint
  • Right Stick: Crouch/Slide
  • Y/Triangle: Switch Weapon (Hold) Switch Equipment
  • B/Circle: Use Equipment
  • X/Square: Reload/Vent/ (Hold) Interact
  • A/X: Jump
  • D-Pad Up: Mark/Helmet Light
  • D-Pad Left: Grenade Switcher
  • D-Pad Down: AI Scan
  • D-Pad Right: Drop Weapon

Best Halo Infinite Deadzone and sensitivity settings

Halo Infinite open world level

Deadzone determines the responsiveness of your analog sticks. You can lower this number to make them respond better, and increasing them will require you to move the sticks in stronger motions.

You can set the sensitivity at whichever level is more comfortable for you while playing, but we recommend trying a higher sensitivity due to the slight Aim Assist in the controller. That’s why we lowered the Deadzones slightly.

  • Move: Center Deadzone: -8
  • Look: Center Deadzone: -8
  • Move: Max Input Threshold: -0
  • Look: Max Input Threshold: -10
  • Move: Axial Deadzone: 8
  • Look: Axial Deadzone: – 0
  • Look Acceleration: 5
  • Look Sensitivity (Horizontal): -6.5
  • Look Sensitivity (Vertical): -6.5

Does FOV affect Aim Assist?

technical preview gameplay

Aim Assist helps controller players compete with those that use a mouse and keyboard. However, your FOV, also known as Field of View, may affect you when using Aim Assist, as the game will shrink far-off player models to fit more information on-screen.

If you’re a skilled player then this may not be a big problem. However, we recommend adjusting the FOV so that you have some extra spatial awareness without the targets shrinking too much.

For this reason, we strongly recommend checking our guide on the best FOV settings in Halo Infinite.

It’s worth keeping in mind that while these are our recommended settings, you’ll be able to find your ideal settings by experimenting with the controller layout when playing the game.

Hop into the multiplayer’s training function and fiddle around with the various options until you find the optimal settings for yourself.
