How to find the Back to the Future Easter Egg in GTA Online’s Cayo Perico Heist
Great Scott, GTA Online’s Cayo Perico expansion has more to it than it appears. An Easter Egg with clear references to the classic 1985 film Back to the Future has been discovered, and here’s how you can see it for yourself.
Rockstar is no stranger to Easter Eggs and pop culture references as their games have a countless list of them. Similar to how Call of Duty’s Black Ops Cold War made reference to the classic film, GTA Online has seemingly done the same.
The Cayo Perico Heist expansion has been out for some time and it’s a testament to Rockstar’s work that they put Easter Eggs in their games knowing they will take people ages to find.
GTA Online’s latest add-on has already featured the Loch Ness Monster as a hidden extra for gamers to find. The base game already has the flying “Deluxo” car that shares some familiar characteristics with the legendary DeLorean in the film.
But the new secret is a little more obscure to locate and it was found by Reddit user SaintPenguinThe3rd, and posted on the game’s official subreddit. They were casually strolling around the Cayo Perico island investigating and exploring when they suddenly came across something that struck them as being suspiciously reminiscent of a famous movie moment.
If you head to one of the power stations near El Rubio’s compound, you can spy a sticker on it that reads “1.21 GW”. Logically this is a reference to the hilarious moment in Back to the Future Part I where Doc Brown realizes that to get Marty home, they will need to generate an electrical surge measuring at a whopping 1.21 Gigawatts.
The Easter Egg sticker can apparently be found on other power stations around the map too. So if you’re out and about and see one of them, then head over and take in some Rockstar banter.
We’re not entirely sure why Back to the Future references is suddenly the norm in recent games, but it’s definitely not the worst trend in the world. Now, where’s that plutonium?
