No Rest for the Wicked provides a fresh take on RPG systems, especially when it comes to weapons and gear. Here is everything you need to know about weapons, crafting, and armor.

Instead of focusing on classes like many RPGs do, No Rest for the Wicked emphasizes the weapon and gear system to shape the way you play

While classes and character customization do exist, your character’s build will primarily be determined by the kinds of weapons you use. So, here is everything explained about the weapon and gear system in No Rest for the Wicked.

Weapons & rarities in No Rest for the Wicked

No Rest for the Wicked has a good selection of different weapons from swords to bows, and each comes in one of four different types of rarities.

Weapon tiers in No Rest for the Wicked
There are four tiers of gear in No Rest for the Wicked.

When you inspect a weapon upon picking it up, you can see the kind of rarity it is:

  • White: Common
  • Blue: Rare
  • Purple: Cursed
  • Gold: Unique

White weapons are not necessarily weaker, but they are more customizable than other rarities you can pick up. You can upgrade and customize these weapons with gems you find, and even make them Blue rarity.

Blue weapons have positive enchantments that can help you in combat, but they tend to have fewer gem slots to infuse your weapon with.

Purple rarity weapons have very positive enchantments but come with cursed enchantments that may hinder the way you play, so they won’t always be worth it. Gold rarity weapons hold the most unique enchantments.

You’ll be able to get weapons by looting chests, defeating enemies, or searching the area for anything you can pick up. Currently, you can find swords, daggers, double daggers, staves, and bows.

No Rest for the Wicked Armor system explained

No Rest for the Wicked has light, medium, and heavy armor, and each gives you a unique playstyle and movement abilities.

Light armor doesn’t use a lot of stamina in exchange for not giving you as much protection as medium armor. But while medium armor is a little heavier on stamina use, it still lets you use a fairly quick dodge roll instead of the quick step light armor gives you.

Heavy armor does have a dodge, but it is a lot slower, so it will be more effective to counter enemies by using a shoulder bash.

You can change whether you play as a light, normal, or heavy character by leveling up your Equip Load and making sure the gear you’ve equipped doesn’t go above or below the lines that indicate your current build at the bottom of your equipment screen.

What the game doesn’t tell you, though, is that it is only the gear you actually have equipped that will affect your encumbrance. So don’t worry about picking up all the weapons and armor you can find until your inventory slots are filled up.

How to upgrade and craft gear in No Rest for the Wicked

You can upgrade your weapons in No Rest for the Wicked when you get to Sacrament

blacksmith in No Rest for the Wicked
The Blacksmith, Fillmore, can upgrade your weapons for you.

Fillmore is a blacksmith you meet before you get to Sacrament, but he can only repair and sell things to you before you get to the main hub of the game.

Once you have reached Sacrament, Fillmore will be able to upgrade your weapons and armor. For better upgrades, you need different resources, but you also need to upgrade his smithy to get access to better tools and recipes too.

You can upgrade Fillmore’s smithy by talking to Danos in the city center. He also has upgrades available for all other shops.

No Rest for the Wicked combat system explained

No Rest for the Wicked has an animation-driven combat system that places focus on parrying, movement, and timing.

This is where armor and weapons truly have an impact because the way you play is determined by the kind of armor and weapon you choose to use. Getting to know enemy patterns is essential for success, and also necessary to figure out how to beat them.
