In MLB The Show 24, pitching is one of the main mechanics you must attempt to master. Here’s everything you need to know about how to pitch in MLB The Show 24, including some tips you should keep in mind.

The early access period for MLB The Show 24 kicked off on March 15, after San Diego Studios revealed all the details about the game’s editions, platforms, and gameplay features. Many new players are already immersed in the new title of the franchise and are taking their first steps in MLB The Show 24.

Just like in previous installments, MLB The Show 24 features all kinds of gameplay mechanics, from the most complex ones like stealing home or diving, to the most basic ones such as hitting or pitching mechanics.

If you haven’t mastered pitching yet, here’s everything you need to know about how to pitch in MLB The Show 24.

MLB The Show 24 pitching inputs

The pitching mechanics in MLB The Show 24 consist of three steps, but the whole process is still quite simple. Players will first have to choose the type of pitch, then the location of the pitch within the hitting zone, and finally determine the pitch’s power.

Check out all the steps explained below:

1. Choose the type of pitch

The pitching interface will show you the inputs for all possible pitch types, and players can select them by using the action buttons on their controllers: A, B, X, Y, and RB on Xbox; X, Circle, Square, Triangle, and R1 on PlayStation.

2. Aim into the hitting zone

Once you’ve chosen the pitch type, the hitting zone will appear, and with the L Stick, you can choose where the pitched ball will go and press A/X to set the spot. Keep in mind that if you choose a breaking ball, arrows indicating where the ball will move in its trajectory will appear to guide you.

3. Pitch’s power

Finally, a power bar will appear measuring the power of the pitch. Once you press A/X again to set the force, the bar will lower again to determine the accuracy of the pitch. There, you should aim as close as possible to the accuracy line so that the ball comes out as straight as possible to the position you aimed for earlier.

MLB The Show 24: All pitch types explained

In MLB The Show 24, there are three pitch types: Fastballs, Breaking Balls, and Off-Speed throws. These are further subdivided into different pitches depending on the movement of the ball during its trajectory.

Check out all types of pitches available in MLB The Show 24:

Fastball

  • Four Seam
  • Two Seam
  • Cutter
  • Splitter

The Fastball is the simplest pitch type to execute and features a straight trajectory, fast speed, and no deviation. This type is mainly used to secure a strikeout, and we recommend placing the ball anywhere in the hitting zone except in the middle, where it will be much easier for the batter.

Breaking Ball

  • Curveball
  • Screwball
  • Slider
  • Slurve

Breaking Balls are fast pitches with slight movement to force swings. The proper positioning of the ball when throwing it, combined with the movement it makes during its trajectory, should be enough to register the batter’s strike. Any of these types of pitches are recommended to be thrown alternating with a Fastball to further confuse the batter.

Off-speed

  • Changeup
  • Circle Changeup
  • Forkball
  • Knuckleball

Off-speed balls, as its name suggests, are used to disrupt the batter’s timing. These pitches are similar to Fastballs as they are straight throws, but with much less power, making them slower pitches. We recommend aiming for the upper corners of the hitting zone to prevent the ball from going out of the lower bounds and also to confuse the batter with a possible Fastball.
