Due to Lords of the Fallen having some pretty demanding system requirements, developers recommend an RTX 2080 for running the game at 1080p 60 FPS on max settings. Many PCs might face some stuttering and low FPS issues due to these requirements, so here’s how to solve them.

Lords of the Fallen is the latest souls-like title on the market, built using Unreal Engine and a viable option for fans of Elden Ring. The game’s developers have been successful in putting out a large open world with next-gen features, but the catch is that it needs a powerful PC to run.

LOTF’s system requirements are quite demanding, with RTX 2080 being the recommended GPU for smooth 1080p gameplay. So, players who might want to play the game on their mid-end PC can face some annoying stutters that can affect their gameplay.

On that note, here’s how to fix stuttering and low FPS issues in Lords of the Fallen.

How to fix low FPS issues & stuttering in Lords of the Fallen

Although there are many issues that determine a game’s performance on PC, here are some methods with which you can try and solve stuttering and low FPS in Lords of the Fallen.

Update your graphics drivers

It is by far the most important step before starting any new-gen game like LOTF. Many people completely neglect their driver versions and keep using an age-old driver for a long time. Sooner or later, they will need to upgrade their drivers so that their GPU can handle the pressure effectively.

Just head over to your GPU manufacturer’s official website and enter your GPU’s model to find and download the latest driver available. Install it on your computer and perform a quick restart to let the new files completely settle on your PC.

Enable hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling

If you have Windows 11 as your primary operating system, you can use the newest hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling feature to reduce the load on your CPU and enhance the performance of your games. Although Lords of the Fallen is not a very CPU-heavy game, it should surely give you a boost in your in-game FPS.

To enable this option on your PC:

  1. Go to System.
  2. Tap Display settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Graphics tab.
  4. Click on “Change default graphics settings.”
  5. Toggle the Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling switch to on.
  6. Save changes and restart your PC.

Make sure that you reduce your graphics settings in the game

Lords of the Fallen is a heavy game, and by no means you should be playing at the highest graphics settings if you are not receiving satisfactory frames. Make sure that you turn it down a few notches in the in-game settings and use DLSS if you have an RTX series GPU (or FSR for AMD cards).

Using DLSS is absolutely necessary if you have a mid-end PC.

The ideal settings for mid-end PCs in the game are:

  • Graphics Preset: Custom
  • View Distance: Medium
  • Shadows: Low
  • Anti-aliasing: Medium
  • Texture quality: Medium
  • Visual Effect quality: Low
  • Post-processing quality: Medium
  • Reflection quality: Low
  • Global Illumination quality: Low
  • Foliage quality: Medium
  • Motion Blur: Off
  • Film Grain: Off
  • Chromatic Aberration: Off

You can also use the Auto-set option to let the game automatically decide the best settings for your system. If these steps do not solve your issue, keep in mind that Hexworks will likely release new patches addressing the in-game performances on all platforms very soon.
