Is PvP coming to Helldivers 2? Devs respond

Helldivers 2 is an action-packed co-op experience that is best enjoyed with friends. But, if you’re more interested in taking on other players, here’s everything to know about a PvP mode in Helldivers 2.

Helldivers 2 is a team-focused third-person shooter that encourages players to team up and take part in a galactic war. The core experience revolves around diving onto alien planets and clearing out waves of enemies, ranging from the local wildlife to dangerous automatons.

Collaboration between squad mates is an essential part of the experience, and the game was built around that concept. However, there have some fans been calling for a PvP mode to be added to the game, which could let players take on each other.

Will Helldivers 2 get a PvP mode?

No, Helldivers 2 will not be getting a PvP mode, as confirmed by the game’s Creative Director, Johan Pilestedt. While responding to an X post on the subject he said, “Hey; We’ll “never” add a PvP-mode. This is to reduce toxic elements from the community. We want an environment that’s supportive, fun, and where we all are fighting on the same side!”

The devs clearly have no plans to introduce a PvP mode to the game, as they want to keep it a collaborative experience. Solely focusing on the co-op aspect could help them enhance the gameplay loop and add new features to retain interest in the game.

Helldivers 2 devs suggest Escape from Tarkov if players want PvP

While consulted about PvP modes, the game’s Creative Director, Johan Pilestedt, has pointed players to Escape from Tarkov as their go-to experience if they want hardcore PvP mechanics.

Not scared. Just we don't want the toxicity that naturally comes with it. There are plenty, actually most, games that provide PvP.

We make games for people that just want to have a challenging time with friends but in a PvE setting.

When an X user stated that the Helldivers 2 devs were “another developer scared to add pvp to their game,” Pilestedt not only defended Helldivers 2 coop features but also pointed players to ‘Escape from Tarkov’ if they wanted PvP.
