Amazon has reportedly put in a formal offer to purchase EA and acquire major franchises such as Apex Legends and FIFA, but conflicting reports claim no offer will be made.

With some of the biggest publishers in the gaming space being acquired over the past year, Electronic Arts were rumored to be next up. As first reported by Puck and spotted by VGC, EA “has been persistent in pursuing a sale,” which grew “more emboldened in the wake of the Microsoft-Activision deal.”

According to GLHF’s Kirk McKeand’s sources, Amazon will announce that it has put in a formal offer to acquire EA, bringing huge franchises such as Apex Legends and FIFA under its banner.

However, CNBC now has countered the report, claiming that “Amazon is not going to make a bid for Electronic Arts.”

CNBC’s David Faber said he’s “talked to some people who actually know if there was something going on and they say there’s nothing going on.” While he confirmed EA has been “considering what it might do,” he said that “this is not going to happen today … unless the people involved previously have no idea.”

Amazon has already entered the gaming space with hit MMOs New World and Lost Ark, and is even developing a Fallout TV show. If the acquisition does go through as reported by GLHF, then Amazon will own some of the world’s biggest and most popular gaming franchises.
