Fortnite’s Creative 2.0 allows players to recreate fan-favorite Call of Duty maps in the battle royale title, but Activision have responded by taking these fan-made creations down.

When the Creative 2.0 mode arrived in Fortnite, players were given the ability to take full advantage of their creativity to design amazing maps using the Unreal Editor, including locations from other video games.

Call of Duty maps like Modern Warfare 2’s Rust became available to play in Creative 2.0, and content creators like JGOD were impressed with the results. However, Activision did not feel the same way.

Activision are requesting the removal of fan-made Call of Duty content in Fortnite’s Creator mode. These types of creations are listed as violations of content policies, and the creators may receive permanent bans as a result.

Enforcement action will be taken even if the creators have no intention of publishing their maps in Fortnite. The existing Call of Duty-inspired maps in Creative 2.0 are being taken down by Activision.

Players can no longer hop into Modern Fortfare and zombie maps. The community had a variety of different opinions on this, with some claiming that Activision were rightfully practicing ownership of their own content.

Others feel that recreations of maps like Rust have no direct connection to CoD as they were made using Fortnite’s assets, and the only major similarities are those that are part of most FPS titles.

Mist Jawa, the creator of Creative 2.0’s Rust map, has made it clear that they will “no longer be recreating any copyright maps.” Instead, they will focus on creating their own “CoD-inspired” maps to avoid copyright issues.

Players weren’t surprised by this action from Activision, as recreating a map from another franchise can fall under copyright violation. However, there are concerns about how strict the creator guidelines will be.

Popular streamer Jake Lucky tweeted: “This makes complete sense and was inevitable. But, I hope that creators who have a distinct creative spin on inspirations from other games are somehow allowed a workaround. We shall see.”

Creative 2.0 has given limitless opportunities for content creators to showcase their designs to fellow players. The OG Fortnite map is also available for players to hop into thanks to the Unreal Engine.
