Fortnite’s Most Wanted event in Chapter 4 Season 1 has introduced a new Heat Level mechanic which spices things up in the battle royale.

Fortnite’s 23.40 update not only brought some new Reality Augments and Valentine’s Day skins, but the patch also introduced a new event for players called Most Wanted.

During Most Wanted, Fortnite players will be embarking on crime-themed heists during matches, which allows players to steal “new Exotic weapons in highly guarded vaults.”

Stealing these weapons will not only give you an advantage in terms of firepower but you will also be affected by the event’s “Heat Level” mechanic. Here’s everything you need to know about Heat Level, including its advantages and disadvantages.

Fortnite’s Most Wanted brings the heat.

Fortnite Heat Level explained

In Fortnite Most Wanted, players will gain “Heat” as they open vaults to get Exotic weapons and eliminate opponents in a match. The more vaults opened and opponents eliminated, the higher your Heat Level will go for that match.

When a player has any amount of Heat Level, they will “become visible to other players on the minimap,” and also more visible in the environment. While you are on a Heat Level, “Cold Blooded members” will also become more hostile towards you.

There are a total of four Heat Levels, all of which have benefits. Here’s a full list of them:

  • Heat Level 1:
    • Eliminated opponents drop more Bars.
  • Heat Level 2:
    • Your movement speed increases by 15%, and you’ll regenerate up to 100 Health out of combat.
  • Heat Level 3:
    • Your movement speed increases by 20%, and you’ll regenerate up to 100 Health and 50 Shield out of combat.
  • Heat Level 4:
    • Your movement speed increases by 25%, and you’ll regenerate up to 100 Health and 100 Shield out of combat.

These benefits may seem worth gaining Heat Levels while in a match but bear in mind that you will also be more visible to opponents, leaving you free to be tracked down.
