Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players have been growing increasingly frustrated with Mai and Chadley talking to them while completing World Intel challenges, but luckily there is a way to mute them – albeit with a catch.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s main story is full of shocking twists and turns, but there’s also a host of side objectives to tick off. Each region features plenty of optional activities, including a unique card game called Queen’s Blood.

The bulk of the side content falls under World Intel, objectives handed out by Mai and Chadley as they research an area and develop new Materia. However, the brother and sister duo also have a habit of talking through many of the battles, which has proved frustrating for many players.

Now, one FF7 Rebirth player has shared a workaround that, although not ideal, means that they no longer have to listen to them.

The tip came from Reddit user ‘kalez238,’ who claimed it’s the “closest thing” to being able to mute Chadley and Mai, after they said “they were literally ruining the exploration and monster battles” for them.

How to mute Chadley & Mai in FF7 Rebirth

They recommended that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players head into the audio settings and change the Transmission Dialogue Playback Device to “Controller.” Then, they went into the settings of their PS5 and turned the Controller Speaker Volume down to zero.

While this doesn’t stop Chadley and Mai from contacting you in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, it does mean that the audio can’t be heard. This is because their dialogue is coming through the muted controller speaker, while the rest of the game’s audio still plays through the speakers or headset.

Plenty of other players responded to the post and welcomed the chance to mute the dialogue, with many calling out the decision to have the two characters try and talk while the fight is still ongoing.

“I have no idea why someone thought it was a good idea to have MAI talk through a battle. It is supremely annoying. Absolutely no one is listening,” said one reply, as another added: “I wouldn’t mind if she talked after the battle as in riding away, but I’m not paying attention during the battle.”

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has launched to rave reviews, but players will be happy to hear about this workaround for a frustrating issue. For more on the game, make sure to check out how many chapters there are and how to beat Midgardsormr in Chapter 2.
