Early leaks and rumors hinted that Call of Duty 2023, now revealed to be Modern Warfare 3, would be a “premium DLC” for MW2. But following the game’s official announcement, Captain Price actor, Barry Sloane, has definitively said this isn’t the case.

Modern Warfare 3 has been officially announced and will finally hit shelves on November 10. The follow-up to 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 will be revealed through the Shadow Siege Warzone event, giving players their first proper glimpse of what the new game has in store.

But leaks that have revealed a host of classic weapons and the news that unlocks will carry over to Modern Warfare 3, along with early reports that suggested that CoD 2023 was originally supposed to be a second year of Modern Warfare 2 content, has left many skeptical that they’re being charged $70 for DLC.

Now, the actor behind one of the Call of Duty series’ most iconic characters has seemingly put these fears to bed.

On August 9, the devs released a teaser trailer that confirmed the return of legendary villain Makarov, as well as teasing that the original Warzone map Verdansk will play a role in Modern Warfare 3. This was likely a sneak peek at the sequel’s single-player campaign.

Captain Price voice actor, Barry Sloane, shared the trailer on his X account, along with the message: “FYI: Not a f**king expansion pack.”

Sloane has been the voice and face of Captain Price ever since the Modern Warfare reboot back in 2019, and the actor was clearly keen to reassure players that MW3 is a fully-fledged Call of Duty title and not just an add-on for a previous game.

A number of fans replied to his post claiming that the game is “absolutely an expansion pack,” to which he responded: “Or…you could just wait till release then it will be clear to you. Peace.”

Although it appears that Modern Warfare 3 will feature the usual modes that players expect from a premium release, some have already hinted they could boycott this year’s game. We’ll have to for the full reveal in the Shadow Siege Warzone event to get a clearer picture of what CoD 2023 will be.
