Black Ops 6 won’t have any big maps or modes at launch
ActivisionTreyarch have decided to cut big map modes from Black Ops 6′s multiplayer at launch, sticking to more traditional 6v6 modes and map sizes that Call of Duty players will be familiar with.
Black Ops 6 will feature small to medium-sized maps, but not the large-scale maps that we’ve seen in modes like Ground War, Invasion, and Fireteam. This is because there won’t be any big map modes at launch.
During CoD Next, the devs revealed that they have decided to hone in on small and medium-sized maps for multiplayer, as they believe Ominimovement and the game’s speed suit those types of maps the best.
There will be 16 launch maps for Black Ops 6. Four of these will be Strike maps, which bring a smaller-sized layout similar to that of the ones seen in Gunfight from MW3.
Face Off can be played on these Strike maps, which is a playlist full of core 6v6 modes on these smaller maps.
Strike maps and Face Off are a great example of the dev’s philosophy behind Black Ops 6, as there seems to be more of an emphasis on close-range and fast movement as opposed to the slower, more tactical nature of big map modes from previous titles.
While there won’t be game modes like Fireteam or Ground War at launch, it doesn’t mean that they won’t eventually be introduced. New game modes and maps will likely be added in seasonal updates, so who knows, perhaps we’ll see big map modes make a return.
Warzone is set to get a new Resurgence map known as Area 99, and the leaked big map will come at some point during Black Ops 6’s cycle too. MW3’s Invasion and Ground War map were sections of Urzikstan, so perhaps we will see something similar in Black Ops 6 once the big map drops for Warzone.
