The Warzone 2 July 24 update brought a handful of nerfs to the Basilisk and X13 Auto, which have been dominating Season 4 Reloaded. However, it also came with an Assault Rifle change that has left players confused.

Warzone 2 Season 4 Reloaded dropped on July 12, bringing a ton of buffs and nerfs that drastically shook up the meta. The ISO 45, in particular, was hit hard, while some subtle TTK changes caused plenty of formerly dominant guns to fall out of favor.

This opened the door for Handguns like the Basilisk or X13 Auto to become the most popular weapons in the game, as they took the close-range meta by storm. But with the Warzone 2 July 24 update, the devs issued another wave of balancing changes to make things more competitive.

However, Warzone 2 players have been left baffled by the decision to also nerf the M4 Assault Rifle in the update, after the iconic AR saw a reduction to its upper and lower torso damage multiplier.

Reddit user ‘Knight-112’ voiced the community’s opinion, sharing a blank post captioned: “List of people who asked for an M4 nerf.” Plenty of other players responded, arguing that the M4 wasn’t one of the problematic weapons that needed to be adjusted in Warzone 2.

“Literally all they had to do was nerf the X13, Squall, and the Shotguns but they need to put their grubby hands on ARs that aren’t even broken,” said ‘patara,’ with another agreeing: “I’m convinced that Infinity Ward hates Assault Rifles.”

Many feared that the nerf to the M4 and other Assault Rifles like the TAQ-56 have made them extremely tough to use, with one player claiming: “Now they basically struggle vs SMGs at range.”

Others tried to understand why the devs would choose to nerf the M4 when there are other weapons that are seen as truly overpowered in Warzone 2.

“The M4 did not need a nerf, but was highly used due to its reliability,” argued another fan. “They want people to use different guns so they will keep buying skins and unlocking the seasonal weaponry.”

Only time will tell if the M4 remains in its current state, but if its popularity slips too far don’t be surprised to see it receive a buff in the future. The next major update is set to be Warzone 2 Season 5, which will bring even more meta changes to the game.
