Baldur’s Gate 3 players want more Cleric deity options

Baldur’s Gate 3 fans have not had much criticism for the game, but some wish that Cleric subclasses had more potential deities to choose from.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has seen a lot of changes since its early access in 2020. While the game isn’t unrecognizable from what the developers were working on then, they still decided to cut some big ideas out of the final release

One of these was that in early access, players had the option to choose Shar, Silvanus, and The Dead Three from the potential deities they could worship. Currently, Clerics do still have 24 deities out of the 30 that exist in-game to choose from, but players have expressed it would be great if they had more options.

In a thread named ‘What are some of the most unpopular opinions that you hold?’ on Reddit, player ‘DragonLord573’ commented: “No idea the thoughts on it, but I really hate that Larian cut Shar, Silvanus, and the Dead Three from Cleric’s potential deities. Paladins even had unique dialogue for multiclassing into Clerics of the Dead Three in Early Access. There was unique dialogue with Shar if you were a Cleric of Shar.”

Though it may seem unnecessary to want more from an already lengthy list of deities to choose from, the idea lies behind character story variety. Choosing which deity you worship as a Cleric in Baldur’s Gate 3 essentially clues you into the alignment of your character and brings forth interesting story options as a result.

Another player commented that Umberlee, the cruel Goddess of the Seas, should be an option too. “I hate that there’s no cleric option for Umberlee. Getting off the Nautiloid, the first book you can find is a book of shanties for Umberlee. There’s a whole quest about her clerics! And I can’t be one of them!!,” they said.

While Clerics still have a lot to choose from, the feeling was that if they could choose from more Gods present in quests in the game it would have added just that extra kick for a great playthrough.
