Baldur’s Gate 3 is highly acclaimed for its companion system, and Astarion is one of the most popular options. However, some players think that after becoming a Vampire Ascendant, Astarion becomes “pathetic” in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been one of the most innovative RPG titles of 2023, with well-written characters and fulfilling combat, BG3 has been positively reviewed since its launch.

Although characters and companions are a major aspect of the D&D style of Baldur’s Gate 3, some players are not fans of Astarion, or the Vampire Ascendant version of him to be specific.

Reddit user ‘Typical-Phone-2416’ opened this discussion as they claimed “Ascendant Astarion is so pathetic it’s hilarious.” The OP added that he “contributed literally nothing to his Ascension” and that it was a gift from Tav. It is quite evident that the OP hated the Ascendant version of Astarion in BG3.

Astarion is one of the most popular companions in the game. He is a Vampire and his prime goal is to kill Cazador, and one of the ways to accomplish his goal is by becoming a Vampire Ascendant in Baldur’s Gate 3.

If Tav allows him to become one, he will start to lose his humorous disposition, becoming a cold and proud creature in the process. However, the OP claimed that he was “the single weakest, most pathetic spawn in the entire Cazador’s court,” and it was absurd of him to brag about being strong and mighty.

Many others agree with the OP as they were also not a fan of Ascendant Astasrion. They claimed that he became “abusive and possessive” if players chose to keep him as a romantic partner in Baldur’s Gate 3. Some even went as far as calling Ascendant Astarion a “toxic a***ole.”

Even though Astarion is extremely popular and widely loved by the player base, some really don’t like the Ascendant version of his character in Baldur’s Gate 3.
