Fans of Larian Studios’ RPG have been trying to discover new ways to get Minthara by exploiting an update introduced in Patch 5. Here’s what methods they found out in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has plenty of interesting companions, although some of them are available only after making radical decisions during the game. Minthara is one of the NPCs that players claimed that everyone “slept on,” but most refuse to recruit her since she’ll only join the main characters’ party if they agree to slaughter a refugee camp during Act 1.

Despite this, fans of Larian Studios’ RPG have discovered several exploits to stop her from raiding the camp without having to kill her. And, after Patch 5, Minthara can now appear during Act 2 in Moonrise Towers.

Minthara is the one who asks you to raid Emerald Grove with her during Act I.

This has set Baldur’s Gate 3 fans in motion, who started thinking of several ways to recruit Minthara without having to do an evil playthrough. In a post made in the official game’s subreddit, Redditor ‘zanyquack’ confessed spending more than five hours grinding through Act I and Act II and shared a “Good Minthara Recruitment Method.”

“TLDR: Yes it is possible to recruit Minthara in Patch 5 without killing the tieflings in Act one. Either attack Minthara at the goblin camp without talking with her first, or steal an item and make her hostile to you. In both cases, use non-lethal, and she’ll show up in Moonrise in Act II and can be recruited,” briefly explained the Reddit user.

Other Baldur’s Gate 3 players also chimed in this thread to explain other methods they used to trick the game and which exploits haven’t worked even after Patch 5. “I knocked her out in the goblin camp without stealing (this was pre patch – I was going to go the whole sheepthara route). Post patch she appeared in Moonrise as expected,” confirmed Redditor ‘SynnerSaint.’

Some fans pointed out that having to rely on her becoming “Hostile” to knock her out seemed “unintended” and like a “patchwork exploit.” “Not that I don’t appreciate the change, but still, it’s just oddly specific,” said Redditor ‘PrimordialBias.’

Players agreed that these methods were tricky and even if Patch 5 allowed players to recruit Minthara after using these methods, this wasn’t really what the game really intended. “Having to steal something and then KO her is not a straight forward way that someone playing for the first time would know which would be counterintuitive to what Larian did to update her recruitment,” commented user ‘iWentRogue.’

And that’s every method shared by fans on how to recruit Minthara without having to raid Emerald Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you want to know more about the game, you can check what’s the BG3 companion players hate the most and what is the pettiest thing you can do while traveling through Faerun.
