Baldur’s Gate 3 has a ton of morally dubious characters, but players especially love to hate The Emperor. Here are some of the most savage replies players gave him while traveling through Faerun.

One of the most controversial characters in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the Emperor, the Mind Flayer who saves you after you escape the Nautiloid in Act 1. While most of your adventure he claims to be protecting you and asks you to embrace your Illithid powers, some characters will insist that there’s no way he isn’t motivated by an ulterior motive.

Players can decide how to frame their relationship with the Emperor, and some even admit to romancing him during Act 3. However, lots of fans agree that his morally dubious attitude can’t be trusted and that they secretly enjoy roasting him whenever they can.

“Larian did a great job putting in dialogue that lets you be as cruel as you want,” said user ‘Prometheusflames’ in a Reddit post called “It’s so satisfying to be mean to the Emperor. “And getting to tell him you find him disgusting when he tries to hit on you? Chef kiss perfect,” they commented.

Other users answered the post sharing why they felt the need to give him the pettiest replies during dialogue and agreed that it wasn’t only the fact that he’s a Mind Flayer, but his general “dishonest and never forthcoming” attitude towards what’s happening during the invasion was an overall turn-off.

This attitude is made worse by the fact that he “follows” the main character around, can hear what they’re thinking, and even appears at first disguised as The Guardian. Luckily for those who hate him, they get the chance to betray him if they manage to steal the Orphic Hammer from the devil Raphael.

“I love the scene where you talk to Voss after making (or not making) the deal with Raphael and the Emperor is like ‘You’re joking right you know I can hear you scheming against me’. I’m just like idk what you’re talking about man as I’m actively telling Voss I’ll steal the hammer from Raphael,” said user ‘EntertainerFirst8163.’

Baldur’s Gate 3 players explained that they started to hate him after romancing him since doing so doesn’t affect the game’s ending. They’ve also admitted being cooperative with his plans, right before their encounter with Orpheus.

“What’s even better is if you do that, then in the shirtless flirty scene if you tell him he puts on a good impression of a human, but he isn’t fooling you. After he says something like ‘I could show you my thoughts to prove my trustworthiness’, to which you can respond, “I’ve been inside your head. It’s not an experience I wish to repeat,” shared user ‘RaspberryJam245.”
