Astarion is one of the most beloved characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, although gaining his trust and love can be quite tricky. Some players are tired of how much the Pale Elf disapproves of good actions and shared their frustrations on Reddit.

Baldur’s Gate 3 focuses on the relationships players build with their companions through dialogue options or their attitude toward side quests. Every character that you recruit while traveling through Faerun has a personal perspective in each situation, but some players have gotten especially tired of Astarion’s attitude.

Even though the mysterious Pale Elf remains one of the fan favorites, players pointed out that working to get a high approval rate from him is “a huge pain:” “It’s incredibly annoying that he disapproves literally any time you accept a quest. ‘I’ll see what I can do,’ ‘Astarion disapproves.’ Well Astarion, you’re in a DnD-based story-driven game!,” complained Reddit user ‘ScottyLogJobs.’

Astarion can quickly disapprove of getting quests done without any type of payment.

While most fans accepted the fact that it’s a little bit tricky to get on his good side during Act 1, some stated that his opinions are multidimensional and that he shows an interesting character development through the story. “Astarion hates you helping people. Astarion Act 3: Approves when you give food to a little child,” pointed out user ‘Shellywo.’

Baldur’s Gate 3 fans wondered if his initial attitude was meant to encourage evil or Durge playthroughs, where players think it’s easier for them to gain his approval. However, not everyone agreed and said that Astarion’s story is meant to mirror the trauma he lived before getting to know the main character.

“I am SO sad people don’t give him a chance in act 1. Yes, he is a selfish prick BUT HE CHANGES. And if you actually take the time to talk to him and explore his backstory you understand why,” said Redditor ‘veronique7.’

Some users also stated that easier to gain Astarion’s disapproval during an evil run, since every “bad” answer turns him off completely. “Essentially, you just gotta be nice to the guy,” commented user ‘Sailormerry.’ And while most Baldur’s Gate 3 players agreed to still love Astarion despite his sassy personality, they definitely agree that the fan-favorite just “likes to roll his eyes a lot at idealistic players.”

And that’s why Baldur’s Gate 3 players had enough of Astarion’s attitude while traveling through Faerun. If you want to know more about Larian Studios’ RPG, you can check why you shouldn’t play as Origin characters and which are the dumbest ways to make enemies in BG3.
