The “Crooked Wand of Fireballs” has shocked most Baldur’s Gate 3 players after they’ve realized it has a side effect that could wreck any Honour Mode run.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players have turned Faerun’s map upside down trying to find the strangest weapons they could find. While there is already an extensive list of great gear to be found even in Act 1, there’s one item that was hidden in plain sight and has players confessing to being too quick to dismiss it.

A fan took it to Reddit to describe that they found this curious item while exploring the Underdark, just after finding a place with two dead Duergar and an Executed Deep Gnome. When they looted their corpses, they found the strange Crooked Wand of Fireballs, which can deal damage up to 48.

However, this wand can only deal such damage after casting Fireball, a skill that comes with a devastating side effect. According to its description, players will drop the Fireball to their feet, and damage themselves and everyone surrounding them if they fail a Dexterity Saving Throw. After all, the weapon’s name states explicitly that it is “crooked.”

The OP confessed that they’ve just realized the wand’s side effect after multiple playthroughs, and couldn’t help but laugh at its description. “When I picked up that wand I instantly remembered Ronald Weasley and his broken wand in Harry Potter,” read a comment.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players confessed to having dismissed the item every time, and most were surprised at how close they were to being destroyed by their own hand.

Like plenty of other users, a fan described that they’ve also dismissed the Crooked Wand of Fireballs and chose to sell it to Lady Esther, the merchant who asks adventurers to retrieve a Githyanki egg for the Society of Brilliance. After getting into a fight with her, they realized how bad things could have turned out for them if they’d kept it

“(…)On her turn, she USES THE WAND. My friend and I both took our turns beating her up, she was nearly dead, but she came up in initiative and just violently exploded instantly. We were cracking up for a solid five minutes trying to figure out what the hell just happened,” explained the player.

The “Crooked Wand of Fireballs” is one of the strangest items players can find in Baldur’s Gate 3, but that doesn’t mean that it’s completely useless. In the thread, fans theorized what could happen if they equipped it with a fire-resistant character, but sadly, they’ve realized that the wand has limited use before breaking beyond repair.

And that’s why Baldur’s Gate 3 players were shocked after finding this wand during Act 1. If you want to know more about Larian Studios’ RPG, you can check how to get the Legendary trident Nyrulna, and how to get the Raven Gloves while exploring the Underdark.
