Baldur’s Gate 3 players call out missed roleplaying opportunity in Act 1

Friendly mindflayer trader, Omeluum

A Baldur’s Gate 3 player found a disappointing moment where they did not get the chance to roleplay the way they would have liked to.

A key aspect of Baldur’s Gate 3 players have enjoyed is its ability to call back to all your decisions made throughout the game – big or small. Many players have agreed that Baldur’s Gate 3 has proven to be a masterclass in roleplay, giving you the opportunity to craft your own story within the world.

One player, however, has found a misnomer in this fact. A self-proclaimed ‘loot goblin,’ they found a specific instance where the way they decided to play the game did not have any real effect when it could have.

As the player described in their Reddit post: “So in the Nautiloid, in the room where you meet Us, there are several Ilithid Rune Slates, one of which contains Nautiloid schematics,” the OP explained. “Me being the loot goblin I am, I took every Rune Slate along with everything that wasn’t nailed down, and stashed most of it in camp as soon as I could.”

When they reached the Underdark, they came across Omeluum – a friendly mind-flayer trader who asks you for information about the Nautiloid. To the player’s dismay, there was no dialogue option about the schematics they had found.

“Fast forward to the Underdark and I meet Omeluum, who is offering a magic ring in exchange for information on the Nautiloid, and I think ‘Oh wait, I’ve got some actual SCHEMATICS for you, lemme get them.’ Only, after retrieving them and coming back, I found there’s no option to give Omeluum the schematics.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 fans took to the comments to point out that you could pass a skill check for this information if you read the schematics. Many, though, agreed that you shouldn’t need to pass this skill check if you have the schematics in hand.

Overall, players seem to feel that this was a missed opportunity for Larian Studios to make the roleplaying in Baldur’s Gate 3 just a little better.
