Baldur’s Gate 3 players advise playing as Wyll for a “full warlock experience”

Despite Wyll being a mostly overlooked companion in Baldur’s Gate 3, fans think that he might be the best option for those looking to really roleplay as a warlock.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players’ opinions were always split when talking about Wyll, the first Warlock companion adventurers meet when traveling through Faerun. While most think that his quest as the “Blade of Frontiers” falls short compared to most characters’ backstories, fans have discovered that he’s the best option to actually roleplay as a warlock.

According to the game’s lore, warlocks obtain their powers through a pact with a magic patron. However, players aren’t able to have any meaningful interaction with their patrons throughout their story, which, for most, seems a lackluster experience for this class.

In a Reddit post called “It’s better to play as Wyll, than have him as a companion,” Wyll fans have made a great case of why players should play as Origin Wyll, especially if they’d like to roleplay the relationship a warlock has with their patron.

A fan pointed out that Wyll’s personality best matches most dialogue choices, and since his stats are Charisma-based, this gives him more options to explore the “full warlock experience.” Not only that, but since his patron is a fully-fledged character, it really shows what this class has at stake besides stopping the Mind Flayers.

“Oh absolutely, Tav has no interaction with their patron and Wyll has a whole story arc that becomes yours. The guy has huge main character energy,” explained another Redditor.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players also confirmed that playing as Wyll gives his story more sense, since most have complained that Larian Studios seemed to have never fully figured out his path despite being rewritten multiple times.

“I actually like playing Wyll as a Warlock 3/Paladin 9 multiclass. I feel like being a devotion Pally makes a lot of sense for him. And it lines up nicely level-wise with when he realizes Mizora is sh*t and would no longer want to use her powers,” explained a fan in the same Reddit thread.

And that’s everything on why Baldur’s Gate 3 players advise playing as Wyll, despite being a mostly overlooked character. For more on Larian Studios’ RPG, you can check how to save all the Harpers at Moonrise Towers and how to summon the Ooze monster companion.
